Slasher Animatic Draft 2

This is my second draft of my animatic. This time I have added a titles and also music to make it more interesting. I have done the colour of the font the colour i want it but it will be a mixture of colours in my real trailer not just one colour. This makes it more interesting and attractive to the eye. The font that i have used isnt the font that i have picked but i just used it to give you an idea of what it would look like with the titles in the animatic and also help with the timing of how long it should be. The music that i have used is also not final it is just of an idea of how it works. Basically this is just a tester to see how everything works together or if it has gone drastically wrong. From doing this animatic I have decided that I am going to change the story of the film so that it has a bit of a twist. This means that I will recreate my storyboard with the changed story. I like the different soundtracks that I have used as it creates more tension for the reader. I will be adding more effects as well such as zooms. However, I have put effects and transitions on the titles that I have used.

Slasher Animatic Draft 1

This is my first draft of my animatic which puts all my storyboard idea into a video. This shows me to see if my idea is good and if it will attract my target audience. This also shows me if the story flows or not. In this animatic I haven't included any backing music, any titles or credits. This is just a basic animatic to show what I working on.

Animatic Analysis

This is a video of an animatic that I found on YouTube. This is an example of what I am going to create. I think that this is a good animatic because of the titles at the beginning of it and also the story follows on from each other which makes it flow and tell the story well. I like how there is titles at the end of the animatic just like it would be on the real trailer when I complete it. The animatic also includes the effects such as the quick shots and the blank screens to show tension at the end of the trailer. This is what I will end up doing in the end creation of my movie trailer. Throughout the animatic the colour of the pictures stay the same and it isn't as detailed as I thought it would be as it is just one colour and there is no colours on the animatic to show what things will be what colours. The sound track in the background is the proper sound track that will be used in the proper movie trailer. This gives you an idea of the timing and how long you wanted the pictures/scene to last. It will also give me an idea if the backing track works with the movie trailer and the pictures but also if it creates the tension I would want it to. This animatic would also tell me if the font that I have used works well on the movie trailer and if it fits in with the genre of the film and looks good on the screen.

My Next Steps

Over the next couple of weeks I will be creating an animatic from the pictures that I have drawn for my movie trailer. This will show how the movie trailer is going to follow on from my storyboard. The animatic creates animation and it will have music in the background that I will use in the real movie trailer. This will then look like a movie trailer as the music will be in the background and the pictures will be moving on the screen as it would do in a movie trailer. This will allow me to analyse my own work and see what the strengths and weaknesses are. I will then be able to improve it and add bits or take bits out. This will turn into a better, more interesting and entertaining movie trailer.

Mood Board

This is a mood board that I have created that has lots of elements from the movie trailer in a picture. I thought that this would be very effective as people would be able to see what will happen in my movie trailer but also how. This mood board includes the location, the killer, the 3 girls (actors/actresses) and the weapon that the killings will be done with. Finally there is blood on there to show the effect on the girls that the knife will have. I think that this is a very good way to show what is going to happen in the movie trailer as there isn't no writing and the audience will just be able to tell from the pictures and from this put the pieces together.

Results from my feedback for my font styles

This is a graph showing the results from the feedback I got for my font styles. This shows that a lot of the fonts didn't get a vote because people didn't think that they were any good at all. Font 12 and 13 only got 1 vote meaning that not many of my target audience found this font very attractive and right for the genre. The font that got the most votes was font 10. This means that I will be using this font because i like it myself but also my target audience like it the most. This shows that it is right for the genre and fits the genre but also it is attractive and appealing to the eye. My final decision on my the font i am going to use for my poster, DVD cover and in my trailer for the title is Font 10.

Font ideas

These are the font ideas that I have collected for my DVD Cover and my poster. I am going to do a questionnaire to see what people think and see which one is the best. I will not just go on the target audience's judgement alone I will also go with what I feel is the right font choice as well. Bearing in mind that this isn't going to be the colour of the title that I am going to use I am going to have my title be in the colours red so that it will portray blood. Below are some comments that I found from my target audience. I will ask them to rate that top two and their worst one;

Chris
Out of these fonts my favourite is number 7, this is because you can clearly see all the letters and it is quite a striking font that I think will look good for this type of genre. Followed by number 1 and 3 again because these stand out and would suit the genre. My least favourite is number 5 simply because you cant see all of the lettering in the font which you dont want for the title of a film.

Liam Pryor
I like number 10 because it looks blood is dripping from the title and this would be because of a knife this then relates to the title "Slasher". I don't 1 and 12 because I thought that they were boring and to simple for a horror film.

Miss Walton
I like number 10 because it give the effect of blood which relates to the genre very well but dont like number 6 and 12 because i don't think either are as fitting to the genre as the others.

Harry
I like number 8 because i think that it is very professional and i think that it fits in with the genre well. I dont like numbers 12 and 14 because they don't fancy my taste in the other fonts that are there.

Jack Hales
I like 12 because it is has a dripping blood effect but i dislike 1+2 because they are two plain and will look unprofessional

Jess Smith
I like number 10 because it has sharp edges and i like the shadow which is coming sown from the lettering I don't like 1+2 as they are plain, you need something which will attract people and it will look good and professional at the same time.
Ben
I like number 7 because it is unique and professional but I dont like number 11 because it doesn't look like a horror movie.

Leanne
I like number 10 it looks very good and professional. The two worst are 14 and 5 because they are not clear and don't look scary which wouldn't fit the genre of the movie

Amy
I like number 7 as it is clear yet effective and the "L" and the "R" look likes knives which is a very good symbolism of the film. I don't like 4 and 9 as they are hard and to busy which is making it very hard to read.

Amy Pass
I like number 10 as it relates back to the film and what it is about and makes it look very effective with the blood dripping. I don't like 3 and 9 as the fonts aren't very clear and very busy so it makes it hard to read them.
Mr Taylor
I like 8 and 13 and I don't like 7 and 14. I think that 8 and 13 work well because they will fit very well with the genre on the poster and DVD cover. On 13 it looks like blood has been splatted on the title which gives it a good effect.

Ideas for Movie title

When I was researching my different movie trailers and posters I was also looking at the different effects on the movie titles that were used. This is because I wanted to collect lots of ideas on what to do for my title but also what was conventional and what wasn't but also how it related to the genre of the film and if you could tell.
This is a picture of all the movie titles that I researched. As you can tell they are all different but some of them use the same characteristics. A lot of them use a dark background to show danger in the movie and 3 of the movie titles use the colours red for their title. This shows that customer that there is blood in the movie as this is what I portray the colour red to show. I really like the night mare on elm street title as there is an effect on it and it doesn't look boring. I want to do the same effect but with blood dropping from my title. The only title that doesn't tell the customer that it is a horror/thriller film is the lovely bones title. This is because it used bright colours and a bright background that looks happy. This might be miss leading for the customers. I think that the Scream and the Prom Night movie title is very boring and more could of been done to the title to make it stand out a little bit more. I also like the effect that is used on the Paranormal Activity title because it shows the title twice but as a shadow. I also like the Crazies title because I like the font that is used for the title, this doesn't make it look at simple and boring.

From this i have got a lot of ideas that I will be able to use on my own movie title when I come to construct it. I really want to use the effect that is on the Night Mare on Elm Street title but in a different way as i want it to look like blood is dropping from the movie title to show that people are going to die in this movie but also this should tell the customer that it is a horror/thriller genre. Another idea that i could do is the effect used on the Paranormal Activity poster is the shadow effect on the title which shows the importance of the title. I think that I will use a red for my movie title to portray the blood in my movie but also because it will stand out on the poster and DVD cover. This will make it easy to read.

Clothing Ideas

My actresses will be wearing very bright and colourful colours that stand out to show that they are amateur campers going camping who have no idea on what to wear or what to do. This could also show that the girls are looking to have a good time as they are wearing bright clothes that could link to happiness. Throughout the trailer they will also wear PJ's as they will be getting ready to sleep. This means that throughout the trailer there will be many outfits that my actresses will have to wear. Some of these will include trainers, tracksuits but also nice outfits to tell the audience that they are not used to the camping environment
My killer will be wearing dark clothes that will camouflage with the surrounds of the location such as dark greens to link with wood environment. He will be wearing block trainers on his feet so that they aren't easy to spot either. Also he will be wearing a big hoody that will cover his hair and also a black hat underneath the hoody incase it falls down. This way I know that it will look more realistic and professional as I will be thinking of everything that could happen.
I have picked these colour clothes for the girls to link with their happiness but also so that it will be easier for the killer to spot the girls in the woods. This is the opposite for the killer. I have made his clothes dark and make sure that they are camaflauged with all the surroundings so that it will be harder for the girls to spot him in the bushes.

When should I film my movie trailer.

With my movie trailer being a Horror/Thriller I need to make it look scary and dangerous on my trailer else people won't see the point in watching it because the genre won't link to the location and the time of day that the trailer is recorded.

I am thinking that I am going to film most of my movie trailer in the dark using artificial lighting so that the audience will be able to see what is going on. This will then show the genre of the movie easier but also make it more scary. Whereas if I filmed the trailer in the daylight the location wouldn't look scary but also people would take it as a joke and not seriously. Therefore my decision is that I will film it in the dark with artificial lightning if needed. This will make it look scary and dangerous but also tell the genre of the movie without actually telling the audience. This darkness will then relate to the blood and deaths that will occur but also it is conventional as most other horror/thriller movie's are mainly set in the dark to portray the genre of it.

My Storyboard

My Storyboard
These are the first six shots that i have drawn. These relate to the shots that i am thinking of doing in my movie trailer. I will now explain each shot one by one.
The first shot is of the girls getting ready in the bedroom to go camping. They are packing a lot of clothes and singing to music. This will be a happy scene to start of the horror movie. This is because I have noticed when doing my research it was very conventional to have a happy start of a horror movie. The shot will be a long shot to fit all the characters in the shot.

The second shot is of the three girls walking down to woods path. This shot will show the girls walking all the way down the path and it will be an extreme long shot so that I will be able to fit everything in. This will enable the audience to see everything in the shot and tell a little bit of the story.

The third shot is of the girls just putting the tent up and picking some wood for the fire. This will also be a long shot but all the shots of the girls picking the wood up and also doing the tent will be quick shots to create tension.

The fourth shot will be of an owl, trees, branches and of the leaves. This will also be quick shots. This will have a backing track behind it to make it more scary and add more effect to the shots. The quick shots will consists of extreme close ups and close ups to show the detail on many different things. This will tell the audience that there isn't any way that people will be able to save them because there is no one else there.

The fifth shot is a shadow on the man/killer as a shadow. This will only show a shadow of the killer because I don't want to give that much away. This will show the audience that there is something wrong and that something is going to happen. This will be a long shot that will zoom in on the killers face to give the shot a better effect.

The sixth shot is just of the knife that the killer is holding. This will give the audience information about what the killer is going to do but also how he is going to kill the girls if he does. This will be an extreme close up to show all the details of the knife but also a shot that the audience will be able to see what the weapon is.
This is the work that I did on paper of my storyboard. This makes up 12 shots in total. I will know go onto write about what the picture says and what is going to happen but also what shots I will be using in the last 6 shots.
The seventh shot is where one of the girls has gone into the woods to collect some more wood for the fire as they have ran out of fire wood. This will be a zoom shot as I will zoom in and out on the girl to show what she is doing but also that she is alone.
The eighth shot in the story board is a replicate shot that was taking in the second shot. It shows the killer stalking this one girl and that he is in the bushes waiting for her. This will be a long shot so that you can see where the killer is and where the girl is.
The ninth shot is of the girl running away and the killer chasing after her. This will be an extremely long shot so that you will be able to see how far the killer is away from the girl but also where else the girl has to run.
In between the ninth shot and the tenth show there will be a loud scream from the girl as the screen goes black.
The tenth shot is of the girl lying on the flood dead with the killer standing next to her with a smug face on. This will go from a long shot to a close up by zooming in to show the details of the girl lying on the floor dead.
The eleventh is a close up of the knife the same as the sixth shot but this time is shows the left over blood on the knife from the girl. This will be an extreme close up of the knife so show every detail.

The final shot is of the girls sleeping in the tent. This shows that there is still two victims left. This will be a long shot so that the audience will be able to see the surroundings.

Throughout the movie trailer there will be a backing track but also a voicepver to give more effect to the trailer.

Storyboard Starting Point

I am now going to start my storyboard as it is a key part of the planning for my movie trailer. it will have lots of ideas from it and it will be a good starting point as I will be able to plan where i will need the equipment in certain places but also what time I will need my actors/actresses. I might have to change the storyboard or do a complete new one as my ideas might change and get more elaborate which will show everyone my starting ideas and my final idea. This will also allow them to see if my first ideas link to my final ideas or not. The storyboard will help me with the shots I am going to use, the angles, the effects and also the props that I will need to use. I will be doing a lot of shots that I will be useing but I will be drawing them on a piece of paper and uploading them. I will plan to do six shots at a time and see where this takes me. I will get most of these ideas from the plot summary that I made. The plot summary is a good starting point for me as i was able to get all my ideas down and then cut out the things that I didn't want to use in my movie trailer as i thought that it was giving too much of the story away or because it was too detailed.

Plot Summary

Below is a summary of my plot as I have planned it so far;
  • A shot of the girls getting ready in a bedroom and packing for something (this will have happy music behind the shots to show that they will have a good time)
  • A group of girls trying to put a tent up in the darkness in nice clothes (this shows that they are not used to camping)
  • Spookey noices and branches crakcing to show that something is going to happen
  • Zoom in on the branches craking and a bird
  • Quick shots of lots of things happening that are bad and lots of flashing images and up beat music to go with the quick shots
  • Shot of a shadow of a man with leaves rustling on the floor when he walks
  • A close up of the mans face to show how horrible he is
  • A zoom on the knife to show that he is carrying a weapon
  • The girls get the tent up and make one of them go off and get some wood for the fire
  • Close up on the shadow following them
  • This would then mean that the backing track will get more up beat to show that something is going to happen
  • The girls pick some wood up and one turns around and catches a glimpse of the man following them
  • She then tells the other girl and they both start running
  • The music then gets more up beat and in time with the girls and the man running
  • The man catches one of them and stabs her constantly and runs and drops the knife
  • There will then be a close up of the Knife on the floor
  • There is then a medium shot of the other girls that are left at the tent to show the other victims that are left
  • There is a single close up of every girl to show who he has left which will be
  • There will be titles and words coming up in the shots to create some more tension and these would come up in time with the beat of the music

Feedback from Colour Scheme

I am going to ask my target audience for my film trailer what they think of my colour scheme and which one they like best. From the results i will then be picking my colour scheme that will go on my DVD cover and my movie poster and it will also have to link in with my movie trailer so that they are all consistent and link together. Below I have put my colour schemes so that it will be easier for the target audience to pick which one they like better as they will be able to see it.

Chris
I like number 1 and 2 for the colour scheme as it very conventional but I don't like number 4 because it doesn't look very appealing and might put the customer of buying/ watching the product. My best one is number 2 as it gives more variety of colour instead of just the 3 colours for the first one.

Ben
I like number 1 the best because I think that if it only has three colours which will give more effect on the poster and draw the audience in. I don't like number 3 as I don't think that the colours go very well together.

Emily
I like number 4 as it will relate to the location of the trailer and the pictures that might be taken to put on the poster. This will make all the products in nicely because the colour that is used portrays the wood.

Miss Walton
I Prefer colour scheme 2 as it will give more effect on the poster and the DVD colour and these colours will be able to be used in the trailer and portrayed as different things. I think that these colours give more variety than the other. I don't like colours scheme 3 as it doesn't fit the genre very well as the green colours are quite happy and don't link to blood/death.

Jess
I like colour scheme 2 as it looks very effective and can be linked to a lot of things in the trailer very easily. This will let the target audience know that they are from the same film as they will link in many different ways. I don't like number 1 as it is very simple and boring and won't be very effective at all.

Harry
I like number 2 as it is very effective and will look good on a poster. I like the colours and think that they work very well together. I don't like number 3 as it is very boring and simple and doesnt appeal to me at all as I don't think that the colours work together.

From this feedback that I have collected I have found out that a lot of people like colour scheme 2 and if the target audience like colour scheme to then the rest of the customer will as well. This puts a lot of confidence in my colour scheme that i have chosen as not just one person liked the colours a lot of people did. I think that this is very positive for my planning as it encourages me and makes me think that it will work very well. So the final colour scheme that i have chosen is number 2 which consists of the colours black, shades of grey, white and red.

Colour scheme

I am looking for a colour scheme for my DVD cover and my poster but also colours that will link in with my movie trailer. This is essential that this happens because people will be able to tell that the poster and DVD cover will link with the movie trailer. I have been researching the other posters that I looked at to see the colour scheme that they have used. Here is what I found;

  • Prom night colour scheme-shades of black, Red and a faint white
  • The Crazies colour scheme-shades of black and grey, red and white
  • The Hills have eyes colour scheme- shades of brown and beige
  • Paranormal Activity colour scheme-shades of black and grey, red, white and blue
  • A nightmare on Elm Street colour scheme-black, brown and white merged together
  • Saw colour scheme- white and black and beige
  • Scream colour scheme-black, red and white.
As you can see all the colours are virtually the same that are used. This shows that the same colours are used to represent danger and fear and also show that the genre is a horror movie as it portrays this very well. This shows me that I will have to do sort of the same colour scheme if I want to follow the conventional thing that is done. I will just have to make mine look different to everyone else's so that people will be able to tell which one is my poster but I will also have to make it stand out. I can see why they have chosen these colours because they will link in with different scenes in their movie or poster/DVD cover. The have used red to portray blood, they have used black to link with the danger and the darkness that is used in the movie but they have used white so that the writing stands out on the poster.
These are the colour schemes that I have come up with;

These are the colour schemes that I picked. As you can see they don't really look that appealing when they are in blocks but once they are merged together on a poster and a DVD cover then it will look a lot better. I have picked the first and second colour scheme because it is what I thought was "traditional" and conventional as all the other horror posters had this colour scheme. This shows that it is very popular and it used for a reason. I have chosen colour scheme number 3 because it will portray the fact that I might be having my location in a woods which would relate to the leaves on the trees. This is the same for number four but this would make it look more dark and spooky. I will do a questionnaire on what people think of my colour schemes and then pick the one that it most liked by my peers.
This is a picture of my colours schemes blended together so people would be able to see what works together and whether the colours go. I think that this is a good idea to do this because the colours at the top don't look that appealing to me at the moment and this might be because they are in a block and not touching each other. Whereas these colours schemes look better because they are blended together and go together. These are just a plan of what might go onto my poster and my DVD cover as my mind might change throughout the planning process. This just gives a rough idea of what i am thinking of but what I also like and why I have chosen the colours that I have.

Location Pictures

Here are my location pictures of where I am going to film my movie trailer. There are six shots of the six different locations in the woods of where i will be filming in my movie trailer. The fourth picture is where the three actors will set up there tent and camp out for the night. Just looking at these pictures it tells the target audience that the film trailer will be a horror movie as it looks spooky. the first picture is where I will film one of my first shots of the girls walking down the path to go camping. I think that this location is very good suits the genre of my movie trailer perfectly. This is because you can tell that it is going to be spooky but also it looks realistic and professional. You can also see from these pictures that there will be a lot of different places that the killer will be able to hide/watch the girls. This will be my main location for my movie trailer. This is because I think that it will be better to fit with the genre. The other locations that i might use will be a bedroom in a house at the start of the movie trailer and i might also use the end of the street in some points. It is good to have more locations than just one because it will be more interesting for the audience and make it more realistic. I think that this location is very good as it will link to the colour scheme and the genre of the film.

Actors/Actresses

I have got an idea of how many people I want in my trailer but i dont know whether they are going to be female or male. I think that I will have a group of girls that are going on a camping trip or going out for the night and they have someone stalking them. This will then allow me to have a male role in the trailer as the male would be the stalker. This stalker would have a knife hense the title Slasher. This is only a rough idea and isn't final yet and still may change drastically before i start filming as I have many ideas in mind. But for now I think that I am going to have a group of female and only one male in my cast.

Length of the trailer.

When I have been researching movie trailers I have noticed that some are really short or really long. I think that my move trailer would be a good teaser so that it will keep things a secret and mysterious. I dont want my trailer to be really long because they will turn off and get bored. In the trailer I will have really short and fast clips to keep the tension up and also so that the audience is intrigued in the film and are more likely going to watch it at the cinema. I can also include a lot of effects that will intrigue the audience more as it would be more interesting. I dont want to make my trailer to long as I want to leave some of the best bits a secret because if you show them all in a trailer then people will be disappointed when they actually go and see the movie which means that they will give bad reviews and less people will go and see the movie. This is one thing that you don't want to happen because you want to make as much profits as possible from the movie as this is what brings in the most money.

What equipment I am going to need.

I am going to need lots of equipment to help me with the special effects that I want to produce and the lighting to look good so you can see everybody face that is on the screen. I need to plan this out before filming because the filming will go wrong and that would mean that I have wasted a lot of time on something that won't be good enough to use. I will need the following equipment;
  • Camera
  • Video Camera
  • Artificail Lightining
  • Make-Up
  • Clothes for the actors/actresses
  • Any Props that I will need
  • Actors/Actresses
  • Location for the day/days of filming

I will need all this to make sure that I am prepared on the day and also that my filming goes well. This will allow me to do the best job that I could do. After the day of filming when I am doing my editing for the movie trailer I might need someone to do the voice over which means that I will need to arrange a date with someone. This will make sure that they don't let me down as I have arranged it with them personally.

Target Audience

The target audience that I will be targeting my movie at will be teenagers from the age 15 to about 20. This will allow me some age range and also they all like the same kind of thing in a horror movie. I will be getting some feedback of locations to set my movie around so that they will be able to have their own input in the final location that I choose. I think that I have picked a good age range because I can pick a certificate that isn't to low for over 18's not to be interested in. This will also give me more of a target market range so that I will be able to generate more profit because more people will be interested in what I am producing. The certificate that I am going to make my movie is 15 because I will be able to put more danger in the movie trailer with a certificate of 15 then I would if it had a certificate of 12A.

Feedback Chart and Final decision

This is a graph of what the results were from the feedback that I received. I think that this is a good way to show my information that i collected as people are able to see more clearly what people thought and which title was voted the best. This now allows me to see the finial title for my movie trailer. This will be Slasher. I am happy with the title picked as it has a lot of mystery behind it but also gives the genre away which is what I wanted. I hope that this will attract my target market as this is the reason I did the feedback to see what people my age thought of the titles picked. I think that it is good to get criticism on things that you have picked as it give me an idea of what they like and don't like for future reference.

Feedback from movie titles.

I have collected feedback from my peers on what their thoughts were on the titles that I have come up with. Here is the list of the titles so that they can pick which one they think is the best and which one they think is the worst. This will allow them to rank the titles in order.
  1. Slasher
  2. On The Run
  3. Splinter
  4. Death Valley

Chris
Slasher or Splinter are far better than the other two in my opinion, mainly because its is only one word which would have a big effect on the audience and create more anticipation about the up and coming film. In order of quality from best to worst; 1. Splinter, 2. Slasher, 3. Death Valley, 4. On the run.

Ben
I think On The Run is the best title because it makes you think what is going to happen and makes you wonder. This will create excitment on what will be in store before they go and watch the movie. I also think that it will look very good on posters. In order i think 1. On The Run, 2.Slasher, 3. Death Valley, 4. Splinter

Emily
I personally like the first idea because it makes the film like it will be very gory and thrilling. I aslo think that Death Valley sounds much better because it makes you wonder what it will be like. In order I think 1.Death Valley, 2.On the Run, 3.Slasher, 4.Splinter.

Harry
I think that Slasher is the best because it is better than the rest. In order I think that; 1.Slasher, 2.Splinter, 3.Death Valley, 4.On The Run

Miss Walton
Slasher is my preference. It is catchy and memorable and insinuates violence, so is fitting to the genre. On the run is my least favourite as it is suggestive more of an action genre and is not as emotive as the others. In order; 1.Slasher, 2.Death Valley, 3.Splinter, 4. On The Run.

Helen
I think that Death Valley is the best as it is more sinister, followed by On The Run, Splinter and Slasher. I think that Death Valley is appropriate for the movie trailer because it represents horror.

Antonia
Death Valley sounds more like a horror so it is suitable for the movie. In order 1.Death Valley, 2.Slasher, 3.Splinter, 4.On The Run

Natalie
I think that Slasher sounds very gory and scary . Death Valley also sounds sinister and scary and it is very catch so will catch peoples eye. In order 1.Slasher, 2.Death Valley, 3.On The Run, 4.Splinter.

Alex
I like Slasher and Splinter as they are short and strong words that have violent imagery, it would be cacthy to say. In order; 1.Slasher, 2. Splinter, 3.On The Run, 4.Death Valley.

Holly
Death Valley is more eye catching and descriptive than the others; the others also seem a bit generic and unimaginative. In order; 1.Death Valley, 2.Splinter, 3.On The Run and 4.Slasher.

Leanne
On The Run sounds more appealing than the others; the others sound a little boring i rank them as follows; 1.Splinter, 2. Death Valley, 3.Slasher 4. Splinter

Amy
Splinter sounds different and it almost sounds quite evil in a way as it sounds something is innocent but could be used in a darker way. In order; 1.Splinter, 2.Death Valley, 3. On The Run, 4. Slasher

Christine
I like Slasher better because it has a ring to it but also it makes it seem very scary like there is a mad man on the loose. I think that this fits the genre very well as it is still intriguing. 1.Slasher, 2.Death Valley, 3. Splinter, 4. On The Run.

Movie Trailer Title Ideas

I am going think about many different titles for my movie trailer and then construct a questionnaire for my peers to fill out on which title that they think will be the best and more appealing to their age range but also which one is more suitable for my genre of my film because I need to make sure that everything links together and flows nicely. I also need to make sure that everything is consisten so that people will be able to recognise everything that I do. These are the following ideas that i have for my movie trailer name;
  1. Slasher
  2. On the run
  3. Splinter
  4. Death Valley

Genre of my movie

The genre that I am going to do is going to be a cross between horror and thriller. This is because I want to bring in different elements from both of the genres into my film to make it look a bit better. This means that there will be some deaths and violence in the trailer but also it will be spooky and scary which should make the audience jump. Bearing in mind it won't be that scary or grousome because I want it to be appropriate for my target market and my film certificate when I have one. I think that once I have picked my target market and my certificate then I will have more idea of what will go in my trailer. I need to also think about the techniques that I will need to use to create the deaths or the danger that might occur in it.

What I need to think about over the next few weeks

  • Actors/Actresses
  • Questionnaires of many different ideas
  • Name of my movie
  • Location
  • Different shots
  • What equipment I am going to need
  • Length of the trailer
  • Soundtracks I am going to use
  • Intertextuality
  • Target Audience
  • Genre
  • Movie certificate

These are all the things that I need to think about before starting to film my movie trailer to ensure that I make as little mistakes as possible.

My Next steps

From this research that I have done I have decided that I will be constructing a movie trailer as you might have gathered. I have a genre in mind for my movie trailer. Next I will be posting many things such as; location pictures, questionnaires, storyboards, actors and actresses that I will be using and many more to help me with my planning. This will ensure me that I am going along the right lines as I will be able to ask for a lot of feedback from my target audience. This will try and make sure that my mistakes are as little as possible along the way.

Wolf Creek DVD Cover

This is the DVD cover for the film Wolf Creek. My first impression of this DVD cover is good. I like is because I like how the picture covers the whole DVD cover but also the picture that is used. This is because I think that it is very eye catching from the fact that it is the whole of the DVD cover, the colour and the picture. I think that picture is good because it shows that it is a horror movie because the girl is running away from something. This picture is able to tell a story from just a still picture. The quote at the top of the DVD cover is very good because it shows that people have already watched it and find it very good and frightening. It gives the customer an opinion before they have even watched it. The colour of the picture is good because it is very unconventional which makes it stand out more. Also because it contrasts with the black and the red which is also used on the colours. This then links to the font because it makes this stand out more because it isn't the same colour or even close to the colour. I like how big the title is because it stands out and will catch the audience's eye because it isn't in the middle of the DVD cover it is near the top which will be easier to see when it is on the shelf. I also doesn't effect the picture that is used. However, I don't like the font that is used as I find it very boring and simple and doesn't relate to the genre of the film meaning that not everything links together. From this DVD I like that there is a quote on the DVD cover and I like that the picture is simple but still tells a story.

The Godfather DVD Cover

This is the DVD cover for the film The Godfather. This is a very old DVD and I think that this shows by the colours that are used e.g with everything being in black and white and only being a little colour. I also think that the font shows that it is an only DVD because I feel that it is very old fashioned writing that used to be very common but isn't now. However, I think that the black and white theme looks good because it makes me thing that the actor on the front of the DVD is very mysterious and could be a killer. I like the size of the font because I don't feel that it is too big or too small just the right size. I like the caption on the bottom of the DVD cover because it is giving some information on what is going to happen in the movie and also it might interest a customer even more as they have a little insight on what could be in the movie. I like the picture on the front of the DVD cover as I find it very intriguing and intense. I think that this is because the picture is in the middle of the DVD cover but also the actor is also in the middle of the screen looking straight at you. It makes me wonder what is in the movie. On the other hand, I don't like that the picture doesn't cover the whole of the front cover because it shows that it isn't that important. From this DVD cover the idea that I like and might transfer to my own DVD cover is the caption on the DVD cover.

Paranomal Activty DVD Cover

This is a DVD cover from the horror/thriller movie Paranormal Activity. This DVD cover uses the same picture/background as they have on the poster. I think that this is good and also very common with the other horror/thriller movies. This shows that this is a conventional thing to do. I like this idea because the target audience will be able to recognise the DVD very easily from the poster that they have already seen before. This would also speed up production and the time but also decrease the cost. This is because they would just make the picture smaller to fit on the DVD colour and they wouldn't have to pay for a designer to come and make a new DVD cover. This is what i am going to do when i come to make my DVD cover. This will be quick and wont take much time to do but also it will be very effective. This might even gain more profit because with it being the same picture people are more likely to buy it/ rent it because they know what it is. Whereas if it was a different picture then the target audience wouldn't know what the DVD is.

The Crazies DVD Cover

This is a DVD cover from the Crazies film. The main colours of this DVD cover is yellows, red and orange. This represents fire. I like this idea because it tells part of the story of what will happen in the movie without even watching it. This is what i want to portray in my own DVD cover. I like the fact that just from a piture you can tell a lot of what is going to be in the movie. I think that this is a very effective DVD cover. I like that the girl is just standing there in the middle of the road to show that there isn't many people around or that she has been stranded and left alone. The colours of files in the sky that are used as clouds show that the fire is going to be big and blow up really high. The font that is used on the DVD cover is the same font that is used on the poster and also in the trailer. I think that this is very good and it shows continuity throughout all of the products. The girl in the picture is wearing a mask, this shows that there might be an infection in the film and that is why she is all on her own because everyone has had to leave if they have got the infection. Again I like the fact that the picture covers the whole DVD cover which shows that it is one of the most important things on the DVD cover. I also like the fact that the title of the film is very big and bold which shows that this is also important but also makes it easier to see for the target audience. I dont like the font on the DVD cover because it isn't for me.

Lovely bones DVD cover

This is a DVD cover from the film Lovely Bones. This picture is very happy and doesn't relate to the genre of the film and can be very miss leading. However, it relates really well to the poster and the trailer of the film as this shot is in the film. This means that the poster, DVD cover and the trailer all think together. This shows continuity throughout all the products that have been made. This allows the target audience to be able to see and recognise the product easily. The colours are similar to that of the movie trailer and the poster as the all have white, blues and pale pinks. The colours all work very nicely with each other which gives the poster a warm feeling. I think that the font on this DVD cover is very boring but stands out as people are able to see it very easily because it is big and covers up most of the page. This shows that this is the most important thing on the pager as it takes up half of the DVD cover.
On this DVD cover I like how the picture acts like a background as I think that it stands out and makes it easier for people to see what the movie will include. It also doesn't leave any balck spaces on the DVD cover which I think is good because I don't like it. I don't like this DVD cover as I find it miss leading and doesn't reflect the genre of the movie. I think that they should of changed the picture they have used on the DVD cover and poster because people could think that the film is a romance instead of a horror/thriller.

Poster- Lovely Bones

This is a poster of the film "The Lovely Bones". I think that this poster is very unconventional to any other poster that i have analysed so far this is because it is very light and lookse like a nice movies even the caption is nice underneath the title. I think that this poster is very miss leading and could trick people this shows that this movie doesn't make people think it is supposed to be a thriller. I like the title on this poster because even though it is very simple it is very big and in your face and the white colour for the text is very bold and stands out because there is no more white on the page. Again on this poster I like that the poster has a full picture as the background as it makes the picture look likes the most important bit on the poster and appeals to the audience more this way. I don't think that i will use the concept of miss leading the audience on what genre the movie is because it might be a little confusing.

Poster-The crazies

This is an official poster from the film "The Crazies". I like this poster because it is simple but still effective and even though that the title of the film is smaller that normally I still think that it stands out because of the colour of the title as there is nothing else on the poster in the same colour which makes it stand out even more. Again this poster has a caption/slogan underneath the title that I really like and that I am going to use in my own poster as I think it catches the audiences eye and also makes the audience think a bit more. This poster has also used the picture for the background which makes it easier for the target audience to see because it is bigger and they can see the little details that are in the picture. In this picture you can see the the man is wearing nurse trousers and the corridor looks like he is in a hospital. This shows us that the might be a lot of action in the hospital and also the pitchfork that he is holding might be a main weapon in killing a lot of people for one reason or another. Also you can see the blood from the pitchfork on the floor, this means that he has obviously killed someone with the tool and it can be very dangerous as it is a killing weapon that is used in the film. From this picture it gives the audience a lot of information that they will be able to foresee what is going to happen in the movie. I don't think that this poster shows you that this is a horror/thriller if you don't look closely at the picture than I don't think that you can tell what the genre is because it isn't dark and mysterious like the other posters I have analysed.

Poster- The Hills have eyes

This is an official poster of the film "The Hills Have Eyes". I can tell straight away from this picture on the poster that there is going to be a lot of torture because of the hand pushing down on the girls face. This shows that this is going to be a violent movie with a lot of danger. You can tell that the characters will be frightened and scared. This is very different to any other poster I have analysed because the background of the poster is very light comparison to the paranormal activity poster. This means that this might be set in a lighter location like a desert as it looks very sandy and also the hand is wearing a glove. I really like the caption.slogan under the title because I find it very catchy and it is very appealing. I think that I will take this idea and do this on my own poster. Again I like the fact that the picture is covering the whole background which makes the picture the center of attention and catches the audiences eye. I feel that this poster is very effective and I really like it because even though it is simple it works well. If you look closely at the poster at the top you can see there is some hills which links in with the title so they have used pictures on the poster that link in with title which I find very effective. It is the small effective things that make the differece to a good poster and this is what I want to portray in my own poster.

Poster- Paranormal Activity

This is the official poster for the film "Paranormal Activity" I don't really think that this is an appealing poster because it feels very neat and tidy. This is because there isn't words over the picture which makes it look to perfect in a way, as there is writing at the top, picture in the middle and the title at the bottom. I also think that there is too much writing on the poster which also makes it unappealing to the audience especially for people that don't like reading. A poster should be short and snappy so that it sticks in the audiences head. You can tell from the picture that this film will be mainly filmed through a video camrea showing that the story might be real life. I like the effect of the title as it look like it has been smudged which shows that it is important because it is printed twice. I also like the contrasts of the colour because it makes the title stand out and catches the audiences eye quickly. This is definatley one of the effects that i am going to use to make the title stand out as more people remember the title. You can tell that this movie is a horror movie because of the colours that are used on the poster showing that it is darkness and there will be a lot of danger in this film because of the captions that are used at the top but also because of the colours. I think that the caption at the top is the most important thing on the poster because it tells the audience a lot about the film i just think that it is too long and will put people of reading it. But I think that it is the most important thing on the poster and that is why it has been put at the top of the poster in white writing. I think that the effect of this whole poster is like a news article because the the font that is used and because of the strict layout.

Poster- Nightmare On Elm Street

This is the official poster that was released for the movie "A Nightmare On Elm Street". As you can see this poster is very dark which portrays the genre of the film as it shows the darkness and the danger that will be in the film. I like this poster because it is very simple but effective at the same time. This is because the image on the poster covers the whole of the posters which shows that it is the most important thing in the movie and this is what tells the story. The layout of the poster is very simple as the image is in the middle of the poster and the title is underneath the poster along with the actors and actresses staring in the film. This informs the audience who the main characters are in the film which could persuade them to watch it if they like the actors and actresses. I like the effect of the title because it is the opposite colour to the background which makes it stand out a lot more meaning it is easier for the audience to see as it will catch the eye easily. The main picture on the poster is the claw that covers half of the womens face. This shows that this will be the main danger in the film. The genre is very easy to see as all the effects on the poster tells you. This means that the effect on the title gives the signal that something bad is going to happen as it is as if it is scratched or in a way it is showing a sign of blood. Also if you look closely on the picture in the background there is a drawing of a grave stone showing that people will die in this movie and there will be violence.

Movie Trailer- Godfather

This is a Thriller movie trailer. I am looking at this trailer because of the music that is in the background. This is because I am looking at having scary music in the background and this music is really good. I like it whenever a word comes on the screen or a differnt picture/scene comes on the screen there is a thud or a bang that is in the bankground to make affect for the audience to show that either something bad is going to happen or danger is about to occur. The music that occurs is a loud drum beat. The lighting in this trailer is very good as it is dark but you can still see everything that is going on. You can see that the camera only zooms in and concerntrates on importants bits in the film but also important faces. This makes it very instrumental and links in well with the music. Also when there is another picture that comes on the screen the screen goes black which is a good effect because it makes the audience wonder what is going to come up yet and it makes them waiting. I think that i will transfer this into my own trailer so it makes the audiende more interested and inrtigued in what is going to happen. The music gets more upbeat when more dangerous stunts and things happen in the trailer this will get the audiences heart racing and wanting to see more but also see the stories. Finally I like at the end when the title comes on and the music finishes straight away but with a bang to show the audience that this is the title of the film and it is a big film that you shouldnt miss.
